Naturopathic medicine is a holistic system of healing. It encompasses science, art and philosophy. It is governed by the principles of:

  • To do no harm
  • Identify and treat the cause
  • Encourage the healing power of nature
  • Treat the whole person
  • Establish health and wellness

(Murray & Pizzorno 1998:4 Pizzorno & Snider 2001:173)

Naturopaths believe the body can be disease free when the mind, body and emotions are functioning correctly.  It is therefore the naturopath’s aim to find ways to “teach” the body to reach this optimum balance.

Healing is encouraged through various methods: -

  • Botanical (herbal) medicine
  • Nutritional therapy and diet
  • Vitamins and mineral therapy
  • Relaxation & stress management techniques
  • Flower Essences
  • Celloid and mineral therapy
  • Body work and massage

Naturopathy differs from conventional medicine in that it does not seek to identify a specific disease agent and subdue it with a drug. Instead, a naturopath would seek to discover the source of the problem and offer advice and treatment to support the body in healing itself.  They would not attempt to simply suppress the symptoms.

Australian trained Naturopaths are qualified in all the therapies that they would offer and therefore can employ one or many of these therapies to bring the body to greater sense of well-being.

Having a range of skills on hand, Australian trained Naturopath’s stand apart from any other singular complementary therapy.

Naturopaths will also use diagnostic testing such as:

  • Iridology
  • Functional Testing
  • Tongue and nail analysis
